The Wetherby Cranberry Library is named in honor of the Jim & Nodji Van Wychen family, owners of the Wetherby Cranberry Company, Warrens, Wis. The Van Wychen family's generous gift of $10,000 helped establish the resource library here at the Wisconsin Cranberry Discovery Center.

“We’re very excited about this entire project,” said Nodji Van Wychen. “When the idea of including a library was mentioned, we thought it was a great addition. Education has always been near and dear to my heart because both my parents were teachers, I was a teacher and two of our daughters are teachers. So my family is very pleased that the Discovery Center will have a resource library for growers.”

The Wetherby Cranberry Company was founded in 1903. Mrs. Van Wychen’s grandfather, Henry Kissinger, became the marsh manager in 1915. Her parents, Ted and Leona (Kissinger) Olson, took over the operation in 1946. The Van Wychens have managed the marsh since 1973.

The library is dedicated to Henry and Cecelia Kissinger, Glen and Fern Kissinger, Theodore and Leona Olson, James and Nodji Van Wychen, and the Van Wychens’ four children, Tonya, Kyra, Shana and Henry.

The Wetherby Cranberry Library is open the same hours as the Wisconsin Cranberry Discovery Center. Check our on-line calendar or call (608) 378-4878 for hours of operation.

Due to the fragile nature of many of the items in our collection, the Wetherby Cranberry Library is not a lending library. Many of our materials, however, have been scanned and can be viewed in our Digital Library Collection.
