|
The newest member of the Wisconsin Cranberry Discovery Center's Board of Directors is Jim Peterson of rural Pittsville. Elected to the board in February 2006, Jim serves as the Wisconsin fresh fruit manager for Ocean Spray Cranberries, Inc.
Founded in 1930, Ocean Spray is an agricultural marketing cooperative owned by more than 650 cranberry growers in Wisconsin, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia and other parts of Canada. The cooperative is North America's leading producer of canned and bottled juices and juice drinks.
Beginning in 1967 as the field representative at Babcock, Jim has held a series of managerial positions throughout his career at Ocean Spray. In his tenure at the Ocean Spray Tomah facility, both the receiving station and process plant were constructed and put into operation. Jim also helped design and build the Chatsworth Receiving Station in New Jersey.
Today in addition to managing all the harvest receiving activities, retail fresh fruit pack and ingredient production in Wisconsin, Jim is responsible for the day-to-day contact with the Wisconsin Ocean Spray growers and serves as the company's principle liaison to the state's cranberry growers.
Jim works hand-in-hand with the Wisconsin State Cranberry Growers Association in tracking political and environmental issues affecting the industry. He serves on both the Public Relations and Water and Wetlands committees for WSCGA. He also maintains close working ties with University of Wisconsin-Extension researchers involved in cranberry research. |
